DNA to Protein Translator

Type a DNA sequence to see its mRNA, codons and amino acid chain.

How it works

Transcription copies DNA into messenger RNA (mRNA). RNA uses uracil (U) in place of thymine (T). Translation then reads the mRNA three letters at a time, starting at the first AUG, and stops at a stop codon (UAA, UAG or UGA). Each codon names one amino acid. This tool uses the standard genetic code, which has 64 codons: 61 for amino acids and 3 stops. It ignores introns and other real-cell details.
